As the relentless heat continues, HVAC companies are getting a lot of calls.

For example, a spokesperson for Right Now Heating and Air Conditioning said last month they were getting at least 1,500 calls a day and a spokesperson for Capital City Heating & Cooling said they are getting at least 75 calls a day.

"I think often people forget their heating and cooling system in their house is so viable, and you use it every day. It runs more than your car does," Ashley Van Cleave, the business development manager for Quality Heating and Cooling Company said.

Van Cleave said in the last few weeks, they have had hundreds of calls a day.

"I've gotten a lot of calls from people saying 'I've been calling around companies who are two, three, four weeks out!' " Van Cleave said.

Like many other industries, they are also facing a worker shortage.

"We could probably have three more crews running all day long. The heat has certainly put the systems in the valley to the test," Van Cleave said.

Although they aren't struggling to keep employees, they are having a hard time getting new ones.

"The hardest part is getting people to show up. In the tech boom, a lot of people went tech and a lot of people didn't go hands-on so we are constantly hiring," Van Cleave said.

Additionally, some parts are hard to come by.

"There is a shortage of a lot of a lot of parts actually, as simple as it may be like flex ducting, man if you even try to walk into a Lowes or Home depot right now that's really hard to find," Van Cleave said.

Right now, Quality Heating and Cooling Company are taking appointments based on need. To avoid having to make an appointment, Van Cleave recommends people keep up on their AC unit maintenance.

"The biggest thing a customer can do or anybody in the community is making sure you are checking your filters, make sure you are spraying off your coil outside," Van Cleave said.

Van Cleave said its important people recognize in these hot temperatures, a 30-degree variance between what it is outside and your house is good. For example, if it is 100 degrees outside, 70-degree temperatures in your home are normal.
