A Bingham County Sheriff's deputy who was shot in the line of duty last week has had the bullet lodged in his body removed.

The sheriff's office says when the suspect, Juan Santos-Quintero, shot Sgt. Howell, the bullet did not hit any Kevlar in the bullet proof vest. The bullet went through the vest carrier and the material covering of the Kevlar panel and into his body, the sheriff's office says.

The bullet was removed on Wednesday and will be used for evidence.

Bingham County Sheriff's Department says Howell was shot in his left side Friday evening outside a home in Firth while confronting a suspect in a string of armed robberies.

Howell was escorted home from the hospital by police motorcade.
