The Wood County Agricultural Society has received grant money from the state of Ohio, totaling $106,831.54.
The grandstand roof is a priority to get done, with work beginning after the Wood County Fair.
“We have received grant money from the state of Ohio to update the grounds and grandstands. We had to apply for the money, declaring what we wanted to do with it,” said Jessica Nagel, senior fair board director. “Updating the grandstand roof is the top priority in the next year. The IT in the office is also being updated so that day-to-day operations can be ran correctly.”
The board is preparing for the fair, which is scheduled to take place from July 28 – Aug. 4.
“Intake starts next week, with over 7,000 entries coming in. We’re going to get them displayed and get them up and running as best as we can. We open the gates on July 28 at 8 a.m.,” Nagel said. “We have lots of fun planned, with a lot of things for free. We really want to get families involved at the fairgrounds. From cooking challenges to crafts, there are several activities to do at the fair this year.”
Campers are not allowed to be parked on the fairgrounds until the afternoon of July 24.
There will be a breastfeeding area in the pavilion, along with an adult changing station. A sensory-friendly area will be located in the Junior Fair Building.
