The Real Madrid forward, who clinched his second Ballon d’Or win recently, has added yet another landmark to a stunning career by scoring his 48th goal for Portugal, which takes him above Pauleta at the top of the standings.

Latching on to a Joao Pereira pull back from the right hand side, Ronaldo controlled the ball before slamming it in to the bottom corner of the goal.

Ronaldo reaches the milestone in his 110th appearance, compared to Pauleta’s hugely impressive 88 caps, but now has the chance to extend his lead at the top by some margin, given that six of the top ten goalscorers are retired, and two of those that haven’t don’t represent Portugal anymore.
