Jaylen Brown is not shy about his ambitions. The Boston Celtics star has high expectations for himself and his team, and he’s not afraid to share them with the world. But sometimes, those expectations can come back to haunt you. That’s what happened to Brown on Friday night, when the Celtics lost Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat, 111-105.

The loss put Boston in a deep hole, facing a 0-2 deficit and needing to win four of the next five games to advance to the NBA Finals. It also made Brown’s prediction from 2018 look even more unrealistic. Back then, Brown sat down with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report and was asked how many rings he expects to have by the time he turns 28. Brown, who was 22 at the time, confidently said he “doesn’t play to lose” and that he would have five rings by the age of 28.

But in 2023, Brown has only two years left to win five rings, which is virtually impossible. Even if the Celtics somehow pull off a miraculous comeback against the Heat and win the NBA title this year, they would still need to repeat four more times in a row to make Brown’s prophecy come true.

That seems highly unlikely, especially after Brown’s dismal performance in Game 2. He scored 16 points but took the most shots on the team. He shot 7-of-23 from the field and 1-of-7 from behind the three-point line, taking three more shots than Jayson Tatum but finishing with less than half his points (Jayson had 34 points).

Jaylen Brown roasted on Twitter after his overconfident prediction

The Celtics will need a much better performance from Brown if they want to avoid a sweep in Miami. Otherwise, his bold prediction will go down as one of the worst predictions in NBA history.
