He says that Hollywood doesn’t create stories anymore or anything he feels is worthwhile, which is why he hasn’t worked on a mainstream big studio film since 2019. Hollywood doesn’t have anything worthwhile to say, so he only works on indie films and plans on keeping it that way.

He also says his feud with Julia is buried.

“There are countless "Hollywood bad boy" stories about you. One is the behind-the-scenes drama between you and Julia Roberts while making 1994's "I Love Trouble." She described working with you as "completely disgusting." Over the years have you ever reached out to her and buried the hatchet?”

His response…

“No, I haven't. Though it's buried. I mean it was absurd what we went through. It was partly my fault and a little bit of hers. Julia got married at the beginning of that film and it was one of those things where I just approached it all wrong.”

[quote]"one of those things where I just approached it all wrong.”

Too little information.

Was Nick Nolte an unemployable drunk?

How long did he expect Hollywood to wait around?

by Anonymousreply 3November 13, 2022 1:26 AM

He should have sucker punched Julia.

More than once.

At first I thought this was about Nicolas Cage. I don't really have anything against Nolte but I found it far more interesting if it was Cage.

by Anonymousreply 7November 13, 2022 3:17 AM

What does that mean he approached it wrong? He tried to fuck her? I’d think she’d welcome that, though.

If he’s admitting it was mostly him I’m sure it was.

by Anonymousreply 8November 13, 2022 3:24 AM

He probably turned her down.

by Anonymousreply 9November 13, 2022 4:05 AM

He must of soiled himself, as drunkards do, in the presence of Queen of Queefs, Julia.

by Anonymousreply 10November 13, 2022 4:16 AM

He's not exactly a prize but I'm Team Nick all the way. Everybody including Vera and her half sister knows she's a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 11November 13, 2022 4:18 AM

Interesting that more stars like Nolte and Jennifer Aniston are admitting now that Hollywood is dying. The only profitable thing they make is Marvel and the only "stars" they can offer are Harry Styles and Timotay Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 12November 13, 2022 4:22 AM

He tried to put his tongue in her mouth when they were filming an intimate scene in I Love Trouble and she didn't appreciate it.

Drug and alcohol-induced dementia will do that to you.

They said they hope to be reunited on screen soon in "The Harriet Tubman Story!"

by Anonymousreply 15November 13, 2022 6:08 AM

Perhaps because Hollywood doesn't recognize Mr. Nolte any longer (?).

by Anonymousreply 16November 13, 2022 8:30 AM

I thought he was a Trumper like a lot of older Hollywood cranks but apparently not. I'm shocked.

by Anonymousreply 17November 13, 2022 9:00 AM

Movies, music is all complete trash now.

by Anonymousreply 18November 13, 2022 9:22 AM

Isn't entertainment fluid and always evolving? There were those who bemoaned the passing of Vaudeville and the Big Top 3-ring circus as well, but then radio, TV and Talkies took up the slack. People love to go out for entertainment, that won't change, but what they find entertaining will

by Anonymousreply 19November 13, 2022 9:50 AM

He’s not wrong. I’m utterly sick to death of superhero shit and lame ass reboots. I just don’t care about what’s being produced these days.

by Anonymousreply 20November 13, 2022 10:06 AM

I doubt anyone was offering him roles on major Hollywood studio productions for decades so his comments are irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 21November 13, 2022 10:22 AM

So what if he's old and "irrelevant"... he's completely right.

by Anonymousreply 22November 13, 2022 10:39 AM

He’s right. It’s mostly comic boom fantasy movies for stunted adults and autistic young people.

by Anonymousreply 23November 13, 2022 10:40 AM

[Quote]So what if he's old and "irrelevant"... he's completely right.

He obviously has no insight so he's irrelevant.

Hollywood studios want to make money. If more people would watch independent films with great characters, actors and storylines instead of bland superhero movies, Hollywood would produce just that. Sadly, only this superhero crap makes studios money these days.

by Anonymousreply 24November 13, 2022 10:50 AM

He doesn't seem to hold anything Roberts who he previously trashed. Probably repeats her body of work since he knew her.

by Anonymousreply 25January 1, 2023 5:58 AM

I'm shocked just shocked I tell you that the most famous film star in the world may be a little difficult. You don"t say.

by Anonymousreply 27January 1, 2023 6:02 AM

Julia Roberts is the most annoying Leading Lady from the 1990s. Her success flummoxes me.

by Anonymousreply 28January 1, 2023 6:03 AM

R29, that's just it -- I'm surprised the fraus would like a homewrecker (that's usually like Public Enemy No. 1 for frauen).

Know anyone who has seen Avatar: The Way of Water, Till, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Amsterdam, Babylon, She, Said, Whitney Houston: I Want to Dance with Somebody, Bones and All, Strange World, Ticket to Paradise, Black Adam, The Woman King, Don't Worry Darling, Halloween Ends, The Whale . . .and didn't want their time and money back?

by Anonymousreply 33January 1, 2023 6:16 AM

He’s produced some asskicking performances. I still remember his riveting performance in The Thin Red Line.

by Anonymousreply 35January 1, 2023 6:18 AM

Corporate consolidation of studios; lawyers and accountants making creative decisions; 2nd and 3rd run theaters torn down. The movie business is killing off itself.

Nolte turns 82 this year (2023)

by Anonymousreply 37January 1, 2023 6:23 AM

Julia's a sociopath and has more skeletons in her closet than a politician but Nick Nolte should have died from a heart attack long ago... well known major asshole and drunk, recovering with hare krishna far too late in life, he would have bought good will had he shaved his head and pranced around in airports.

by Anonymousreply 38January 1, 2023 6:23 AM

"Everyone knows she's not a very nice person" - you can't say that without proof

by Anonymousreply 39January 1, 2023 6:26 AM

He’s right. Mainstream movies are shit now. Even the films being nominated for Oscars are mediocre and forgettable.

No one cares if he got along with Julia Roberts! No one even remembers the movie! Should his entire acting career be judged on whether or not he got along with a costar?

And that’s not Sigourney Weaver mentioned in R41’s post. Not sure what those bloggers were smoking.

[quote]Interesting that more stars like Nolte and Jennifer Aniston are admitting now that Hollywood is dying.

If by "dying" you mean "building more sound stages to keep up with demand", then...ok. I think they mean the shift away from "movie stars" who can "open" a film at movie theaters. Hollywood has never been busier, but they are making relatively fewer films for traditional theatrical distribution. Audiences seem more interested in the genre and writing these days, rather than the personalities of the actors.

by Anonymousreply 51January 2, 2023 3:11 AM

I read the post above about the destruction of second-run and third-run theaters and I'm reminded that until I was eighteen, I saw almost every film I'd ever seen on a huge screen at our local "sub run" movie theater which I could walk to from my house. They also played G-rated general fare, including older films each weekend for the "Kiddie Matinee" which I attended at least 40 Saturday afternoons per year until I was old enough to work and drive to a multiplex.

I wonder without that access to years of wonderful and varied movies if I would have been such a frequent moviegoer my whole adult life? Even when I moved to NYC in 1981 there were easily a dozen or more quality revival houses screening Hollywood's and Europe's finest films from the previous fifty years. I miss seeing my favorites on a big screen. I wonder if we are at the end of all that since young people have seen relatively fewer films in theaters.

I admire Nolte as the character Jerry Baskin in "Down and Out in Beverly Hills".

He played the perfect, harmless, bullshitter/manipulator.

DAOIBH is one of my favorite 80s comedies. Everybody in the cast is very good. It's dated as all get-out (hell, it was dated when it was released) but I still love it.

by Anonymousreply 56January 2, 2023 1:29 PM

in wilmington she let her dog shit all over the rented apt and a hired asst. friend had to clean it up. she was a cunt according to him. dismissive and aloof.
