Adebayo Akinfenwa has been left shocked at the possible transfer fee Arsenal could pay Shakhtar Donetsk for Mykhaylo Mudryk during the January market, as he told talkSPORT.

The Ukraine international has been valued at €100m by Donetsk and it seems as though, if he does head to north London, then he could be snapped up for over £80 million, although, talks are still on-going.

Either way, Mudryk couldn’t make it more clear that he wants to sign for Mikel Arteta’s side, near-on every time they play now, he’s posting about them on social media.

And why shouldn’t he?! The Gunners are sitting at the top of the Premier League table, with a seven-point lead and in with a serious chance of becoming champions.

Arsenal sitting outside of Champions League football would be appealing – as they proved in the summer – but they are even more appealing in their current situation.

But given the fee that is being talked about for Mudryk, former EFL star Akinfenwa questioned the money that could be thrown about.

“Jeez,” said Akinfenwa. “I have debated this many times that the market is inflated, so £100 million nowadays is not £100 million, if you understand what I am saying.

“There has to be some sort of sense, to try and ease with this. All of a sudden, you are just going to start throwing around £200-250 million on players. €100 million (£88m)? That’s to start (on Arsenal paying that fee for Mudryk to start, not be a squad player).”

MUDRYK NOT NEEDED AS MUCH

If Mudryk were to come in, he would join as a squad player and not someone that’s going to start straight away, yet his transfer fee, or possible fee, doesn’t state that.

Added to that, he is better-suited playing on the left channel, where Gabriel Martinelli is thriving.

Once again, whilst it helps bulk up Arteta’s squad, that out-and-out striker or player similar to the injured Gabriel Jesus is needed more.

Either way, if the Gunners are going to splash so much cash on a player, then it would rather be for a bonafide number nine.
