SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Search and rescue teams were called out after a hiker was injured while hiking in the wilderness area north of Mount Olympus.

Officials with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said their search and rescue crews were conducting boat training on the Great Salt Lake Monday around 8 p.m. when they got the call of an injured hiker.

The 41-year-old male was on the Neff’s Canyon trail with his dog. On the way down the trail, the man slipped and rolled or broke his ankle.

He was able to call 911 emergency dispatchers to ask for help.

Several teams responded to the man’s location, about two miles up the trail. They were able to bring the man to the trailhead near 4300 East and 4500 South using a litter and wheel – a gurney with one large wheel in the center.

It was not clear if the man was transported to the hospital.

The man and all SAR teams were off the mountain by midnight.
