The seventh episode opens with a flashback to when the first hybrid was created at Fort Smith Labs. Birdie checks the temperature of all the chicken eggs but notices that one has a higher temperature than the rest. As she examines the unfertilized egg, she realizes that it has a heartbeat. She then shares her findings with her boss Gillian and the rest of the lab.

Then, we cut to the night that Fort Smith Labs was searched by the government. We find out what happened to Birdie after she handed over Gus to Richard. As Birdie dodges authorities and makes her way through Fort Smith, she finds two radios in one of the lab rooms and some of her research. She takes all of it with her and then heads to the maintenance room and hides.

Her phone starts ringing and she picks it up to talk to her co-worker/friend Judy. As she speaks on the phone, she opens Richard’s locker and finds a Yellowstone postcard. She tells Judy to pack her bags and then hangs up the phone. Once she opens the door to the maintenance room, two men try to capture her. She fights back but to no avail. The men inject her with something that knocks her out and then they take her somewhere. We find out where later.

In the present, Jepperd and Co make their way to Yellowstone but are temporarily stopped after a roadblock. While Jepperd figures out what to do, Gus and the other hybrids notice a tank coming toward them. As the tank aims its gun in the direction of the bus, the Animal Army shows up with Bear. The tank lets out a grenade and destroys the cars that were blocking the bus. Then, Bobby pops up out of the tank. While Bear decides to join Jepperd and the hybrids on their journey to Yellowstone, Tiger promises her that she and the Animal Army will defeat Abbot and the Last Men.

On the way to Yellowstone, Bear tells Gus that Birdie is alive and that she spoke with her. She also gives him the cassette tape and his photo of Birdie. Then, Wendy walks up to the front of the bus and Bear looks at her shocked. Although she’s reunited with her sister, she chooses not to tell her who she is. Jepperd pulls over the bus for a pit stop and speaks with Aimee. During their conversation, Aimee reveals that she has the Sick. She has temporary treatments she can take, but she chooses not to because it was made from hybrids. The conversation ends with Jepperd promising he’ll safely get the hybrid kids to the cabin at Yellowstone.

They finally make it to the cabin and settle in. Jepperd finds an old cassette player and gives it to Gus. Gus goes to sit on the cabin’s roof and listens to the cassette tape Bear gave him. Then, we cut back to the flashback of when Birdie was captured by two mysterious men. The men are revealed to be Fort Smith employees and they take Birdie to a secret location where Gillian lies in a bed gravely ill.

Gillian basically injected the H5G9 virus/the Sick, so that’s why she’s sick. She tells Birdie to bring Gus because she believes he may be the cure. Birdie replies by saying that she’ll only help if Gillian tells her everything and stops hiding information. Gillian agrees to tell Birdie everything and starts by revealing that her great-grandfather was James Thacker. Remember him from an earlier episode this season? He was a scientist who suffered from a muscular degenerative disorder.

He had set sail to Alaska to find a so-called fountain of youth in hopes that it will cure him. But he and his crew never returned. According to Gillian, the disorder was passed down to her. The conversation ends with Birdie telling Gillian that she’ll bring Gus to her but only if she doesn’t come after Richard.

Then, we cut to Birdie at her house packing her things to go somewhere. But before she leaves, she records a message on a cassette tape and leaves it for Richard to find. This is the same cassette tape that Gus is listening to in the present time. Birdie leaves a note for Judy saying that she’s leaving to find Gus, but this turns out not to be true. Birdie knows that if she’s in Gus’s life, he’ll never be safe. So she heads to Alaska instead because she believes she’ll find answers there.

Back in the present, Bear talks to Tiger on a walkie-talkie. Remember, Tiger and the rest of the Animal Army are at the Preserve trying to take down General Abbot and the Last Men. Bear tells Tiger that she found her sister but hasn’t told her who she is. Tiger encourages her to reveal her true identity to her sister and Bear listens to her advice. Then, Bear tells Tiger to come to the cabin after they defeat the Last Men. She tells Tiger where the cabin is and they end their conversation.

Back at the Preserve, Abbot and some of his army suddenly appear in front of Tiger and the rest of the Animal Army. Abbot basically lets Tiger know that he was listening to her conversation with Bear. This can’t be good because now Abbot knows where Jepperd, Aimee, and the hybrids are.

At the cabin, Bear is about to tell Wendy that she’s her sister, but she’s interrupted by Aimee. Then, Aimee and Wendy go for a walk and Aimee reveals to Wendy that she has the Sick. The episode ends with a seriously injured Tiger arriving at the cabin. She tells Jepperd, Bear, and Gus that Abbot is on his way there. Then, we cut to the Preserve where we see most of the Animal Army members dead and Abbot and his army preparing to go to Yellowstone.
